Motorcycle Insurance Requirements

LG Insurance Group Talks Motorcycle Insurance Requirements

The state of Georgia applies the same insurance requirements to motorcycles as to automobiles. Before you get out onto the road, you must prove you have insured the motorcycle.

LG Insurance Group of Marietta, GA wants you to remain safe on the roads of Georgia, so we encourage defensive driving and proper insurance. Georgia instituted the requirements it has to provide you financial protection in case of an accident.

A motorcycle is defined as any two-wheeled vehicle with 50 cubic centimeters or greater motor that can exceed 30 miles per hour on a flat surface. You must insure a motorcycle under state law with a 25/50/25 policy level liability policy.

  • $25,000 per accident for property damage,
  • $50,000 per accident for bodily injury or deaths for all others involved,
  • $25,000 per accident for bodily injury or death for one person.

Since Georgia does not require personal injury protection, the state minimum insurance only protects you from liability for damage you cause to another person’s vehicle. Although the state does not require it, you do need additional insurance to protect yourself from medical injury costs above the other guy’s insurance or when the other driver does not have insurance.

Obtaining comprehensive and collision policies make sense to protect yourself and your investment. These two policies protect your vehicle against damages.

You need to ride with proof of insurance. Don’t leave home without it. You will incur fines and potentially license suspension if you do not have insurance and get stopped on Georgia roads.
